Make a half planet with craters using a half foam ball and air dry clay.

Materials

  • Half foam ball
  • Three pieces of air dry clay (different colors)
  • Tools for creating texture (optional)

Instruction

  • Prepare the Clay: Take three pieces of air dry clay in different colors. Smoosh the pieces of clay together. Roll them around and mix them up. Squish the clay together in your hands to blend the colors.
  • Cover the Foam Ball: Take the half foam ball. Spread the mixed air dry clay over the foam ball. Ensure the clay covers the bottom edge of the ball, as the clay will shrink slightly as it dries.

Problems

  • The bottom edge of the ball is showing, this is caused by the clay shrinking slightly as it dries. Add extra clay when making or later consider adding rings of clay around the planet.
